About us

SMS Maschinenbau GmbH, established in 1995, is one of the leading companies producing high-precision, CNC-controlled thread grinding machines for external and internal threads. With about 85 employees SMS produces worm- and thread grinding machines for various applications such as grinding of worms, ball-screws, thread-gauges, taps, hobs and shaper cutters. Located in the strong and powerful German southwest, annually nearly 40 machines are produced on 1500 m2 assembly area. Each machine comprises a state-of-the-art CNC-control along with menu-guided, user-friendly dialogue software for shop-floor programming and is equipped with latest remote diagnostic capabilities. SMS maintains a quality management system to fulfil the requirements of ISO 9001:2015. More than 60% of the machines are exported to end-users world-wide.

Heligrind SH

The SMS Heligrind SH series permits a wide rage of grinding applications due to ist modular design. The machine is - depending on the version and equipment-particulartly suitable for the ultra precise and highly productive grinding of all kinds of thread-type workpieces. The SH is aconsole machine (travelling column construction) and is distinguished by its compact and low-vibrated design. the machine has an optional vercical axis with hydraulic weight compensation.

GBA203

With the GBA203, the developers at SMS have made a quantum leap. For the first time, customer requests for flexible relief path (particularly with regard to the polygon form on forming taps) with significantly increased machine availability can be met. As with the predecessor models in the GBA series, this is a fully automated tap grinding machine - with an enlarged machining range upt to M25. The A-axis enables the production of tools with left-handed thread.

GI50

SMS designed a new internal thread grinding machine type GI-50 on the highest technical level. Thus, SMS was able to meet the request of many manufacturers
of ball screws and similar parts. The new developed grinding machine is able to grind nuts (internal thread) and additionally external circular / surface grinding. The new GI-50 is a „must have“ when it comes to optimisation in terms of machining costs as well as the required workpiece accuracy in the production of ball screws nuts and similar parts.
